In the eyes of a young female, prom is one of the most important days of your life. Yes, of course, there’s always your wedding, but you can married as many times as you want, you may only get one high school prom. With that, it is also a very stressful event, so I’m here to make it a little more fun and a lot less stressful.

Let’s start with “The One” and by that, I mean that perfect dress. The one you’ve been dreaming about, that is the perfect fit, color, and fabric. For any special event, my go-to boutique is B & B Couture. I can ensure you’ll find “The One” there.

B & B Couture in Chelsea is THE city’s secret jewel when it comes to special occasion dress shopping. I’ve been shopping here since I was 12 years old, looking for a one-of-a-kind dress for my Bat Mitzvah. That’s when I met co-owner Blair Berisha and fell in love with his personality and incredible fashion sense. Not only does this boutique have the most exquisite dresses but their customer service and attention to detail, makes the experience of finding the perfect dress….well, just perfect.

So Blair told me about 8 of the most popular prom trends he’s seeing in 2019. Read below or watch Blair and I discussing the trends here.

  1. BALL GOWNS

If you want to be the belle of the ball, then go with a ball gown, my love. I truly felt like a princess in this gown, Cinderella to be specific, because of the magical blue color of this dress. This gown has four very hot trends, all in one; ball gown, metallic, pockets and pastel blue. Ball gowns are flattering for any figure. This was truly one of my favorites and is perfect for a senior who wants to make a statement this prom.

2. POCKETS

This trend is serious! I LOVE pockets. I think pockets in evening gowns might be one of the single greatest creations. You can’t tell there are pockets in these gowns because of the flair of the dress. Unless, that is, you load up your pockets up with so much stuff, that you create a bulge. A bit of advice, don’t do that! The pockets won’t replace my handbag. But think of all the times, you’ve been caught in pictures with your cell phone or keys in your hands. Now you can just slip your cell in your pocket and be picture ready in seconds. It’s also a great place to carry lipstick or personal items that you want to hide.

3. BLUSH

Blush tones have been popular for a while and nothing is more trendy than nude this spring so this dress is on point. You’ll also notice that this is a metallic blush. Anything that sparkles… glitter, sequins, you name it, is extra hot this spring. I also love the spaghetti straps and the flattering cowl neckline.

4. PASTEL BLUE

Blue was the number one color for prom last year, but this year the number one is pastel blue. Pastels in general are trendy but pastel blue is leading the charge. Blair Berisha, co-owner of B & B Couture isn’t sure why, but wonders if Lady Gaga’s show-stopping pastel blue/periwinkle dress at the Golden Globes, has something to do with the trend this prom.

5. SATIN

Another of last year’s favorites is the leading trend again this year… satin gowns. Jewel tones are also very popular so this gorgeous emerald satin gown with it’s pockets is spot on. This same dress if available in many colors like deep purple, blue, dramatic red and even pastels.

6. CORSETS

Corsets have been around for 500 years. The lace up bodices are timeless but have their moments when they become extremely trendy. That moment is now. Personally I love them because they allow you to create your own tailored fit. Pull the lace strings a little tighter and create a beautiful shapely profile. If you eat a little too much at dinner, get your girlfriend to loosen up that corset in the bathroom afterwards. Tie-backs and corsets are super sexy, the lace ties are functional but also create a lot of drama in the back.

7. SLITS AND TRAINS

That “Old Hollywood” sexy slit up the front of the gown adds dramatic flair this year. Not only do you get to show off your leg, but you’ll actually get to show off those shoes that rarely get seen with long gowns. Trains are also very trendy this year and breathtaking for pictures. After you get those one-of-a-kind beauty pics, bustle your train and dance the night away.

8. THE WOW DRESS

Trends are great, they come and go every year. But you don’t have to follow any rules. Your dress should fit your personality and should make you feel special. If you want that “wow” dress and it makes you feel good, get it. This heavily silver and gold beaded mermaid style dress with a dramatic structured train is something Blair Berisha calls the “wild card”. If you want feel like telling the world “you have arrived”, then go for the wild card dress. Some people go to prom only once, maybe twice in their lives. Do you! Have no regrets and buy what makes you feel special, despite any rules, or trends.
